Fine, I'll say it, I'm really getting into these Apple things. Woodchuck Cider will give you cavities and the 'beetus, but this new generation is really getting good. That being said, the Ace Apple is really good for what it's not, overpowering. Nice, subtle. And according to the label, it's made with 100% apple juice so you can give it to the kids with a PBnJ. Take that Capri Sun and your 10% juice. If you like to drink and eat, it goes great with white meat. Or any other color of meat. Beer doesn't care what kind of meat is hanging around. Sure, that makes beer kind of slutty, but it's not racist. Pound a bunch of heavy beers over the course of the evening? Cleanse with one of these, it'll turn into two or three though. All in all, good beer, I'll give it 3.5 out of 5.
I'll preface this review by saying I am not a big fan of hard ciders, or sweeter drinks in general. Maybe it's because I went to WMU as Mike's Hard Lemonade was hitting the market and woke up too many mornings with my teeth wearing a sweater. Perhaps it's the negative connotation I have from being shut down by more than a few curvaceous bar creatures after ponying up for a nights' worth of Woodchuck, either way, I'm going to try to stay objective.
I was expecting another over-bearing hayride from Hell through the orchard but was pretty impressed with my first taste. Mild, with the apple creeping up every-so slightly during the aftertaste. Usually the new hard ciders that first sip makes you cringe like a bachelorette party just singled you out to knock off a few items on their scavenger hunt (What's this? a filthy sexual note scribbled on a bar napkin? No, thank YOU Rebel Wilson!) As primarily a beer guy, this was nice. As I continue enjoying, I notice the label hints a bit at the understated flavor…an Ace card with an apple. Simple. That is a perfect summation of the taste; simple.
5% ABV on this is nice. Enough to ice down your tastebuds, but not so much that you can't correctly pronounce “literally” after a couple.
I dig this. Maybe if this was my first hard cider, I wouldn't have such a prejudice against hard ciders now. Maybe if I had listened to my Father I would be in better financial shape than I am.
